I haven't written since I moved into my new apartment. That's right. I was especially blessed to find a new apartment, and it is so nice to have a beautiful home to live in.
At the same time, it has been stressful.
The day I moved in, I received a different bill than I expected. Since then, I have felt like I don't have enough money. You know what has happened since that day? I didn't get paid the amount I was supposed to, a client couldn't pay for a course through my portal, and a bill was unexpectedly paid out of my account. Last night, I literally lay in bed crying because I was afraid I was going to lose my newly won apartment after everything I went through to get here.
Living in a hotel was not fun, and every day I prayed to God that I would find a new place to live. Now, I am praying that I can keep my apartment.
I really do love it.
Today, I walked around thanking God and the Universe for this apartment. I talked about how much I love my large bathroom, my refrigerator, my countertops, my closet, my patio, and even my little doorbell. I spent time tonight simply showing gratitude for my apartment.

My grandmother had bronze praying hands in her home when I was a kid. I obviously associate those praying hands with her. Along with knowing that "This too, shall pass." |
One thing I forgot to do, which can be challenging when I am feeling depressed or experiencing a PTSD episode like I have been this week, is to remember to be grateful for the things that do work out. Since moving into my new place, I have found myself complaining more than showing gratitude.
For example, today I noticed some loose bricks. Instead of focusing on them, I decided to show gratitude for the solid foundation I do have. Those loose bricks reminded me that one loose brick is not what makes something tumble apart. A loose brick can be replaced.
I am grateful for the money that I did not receive.
I know that sounds counterintuitive.
However, it means I had money coming to me in the first place, which is why losing it was upsetting. I also know that I am going to receive that money in the future.
I am grateful for the person who could not sign up for my course because I discovered a glitch in the payment system that has now been corrected. I am grateful to know that I am offering programs people are interested in and want to learn more about.
I am grateful for the piece of mail I received that was addressed to someone else. It made me realize that this is my place now and that it is time to start putting my own positive energy and personal touch into my home.
I have been complaining that my furniture and many of my belongings are still in storage. Instead, I am grateful that I can literally walk across the street and access them. I am grateful in advance for the money to pay for my storage unit. I am grateful for all of the money I am going to receive that will help me keep my home.
I am trying to think positively instead of focusing on fear. I am trying to turn disappointments into hope, which is one of the cornerstones of resilience.
Even though I do not have my TV in my apartment yet, I am grateful that I can watch movies on my laptop. Even though I have complained about walking because I have been dealing with joint pain and inflammation, I am grateful that I was able to walk over to my storage unit tonight and retrieve some items.
I am grateful for my healthcare provider, who is helping me explore the cause of these issues.
I am very grateful for how peaceful my new home is and for how easily I fall asleep here. Most of all, I am grateful that I feel safe.
I have not had much of a chance to walk around the neighborhood yet, and I am actually grateful for that. The reason I haven't had much time is that I have been developing a LinkedIn course and promoting the first four weeks of our Get Your Walk On online course.
I am so grateful that I created that walking program for myself a few years ago. Even now, when I have less active days, my baseline activity level has increased from fewer than 2,000 steps per day to more than 4,500. That is simply my average day of moving around.
I am grateful that I can still walk despite my pain, and I know I simply need to take things a little slower right now.
I am grateful for the small miracles I experience every day.
I am praying for miracles that the money I lost will be replaced and that I will receive even more than I lost. I am grateful for all of the work opportunities that come my way. I am grateful for my contract job and for the fact that I own a business.
I am grateful for everyone who has supported me lately.
When I was living in the hotel, I really felt like giving up. But I had faith that I would find an apartment.
I need to use that same faith today.
As one of my friends reminded me, sometimes you simply need to pray for a miracle and believe you will receive one.
And I did.
Today's Gratitude Practice
Today's gratitude practice is about using cues from the world around us to manifest more positive experiences in our lives.
All of those negative things you are worried about, such as not having enough money, can become reminders to appreciate the money you do have.
When a friend calls, it is a reminder to be grateful for their presence in your life. Even when they don't call, it can remind you that they were placed in your life for a reason.
Sometimes problems are given to us so that we can be grateful when we discover the solution. They remind us that situations are not hopeless or insurmountable.
Gratitude helps us recognize the good that already exists while creating space for even more good things to enter our lives. We can manifest positive outcomes by focusing on what is working instead of dwelling on what is not. The more grateful we become, the easier it is to recognize opportunities, solutions, and blessings when they appear.
